Benefits of Flowers during Social Distancing

by Athena Lumière on March 08, 2021

FLOWERS MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY & BOOSTS ENERGY

Behavioral research studies done at Harvard, Rutgers, and Texas A&M have shown that flowers make people happier, promote feelings of compassion, and improves energy. This study went on to state that flowers induce immediate happiness and delight, promote long-term mood-boosting effects, and reduce feelings of depression, anxiety and agitation.

FLOWERS DECREASE STRESS

There are several studies linking reduced stress with flowers, and one study from the University of North Florida, in particular, showed that women who received flowers had a statistically significant reduction in stress levels.

FLOWERS IMPROVE EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Research conducted at Rutgers found that flowers generate happy emotions and strengthen feelings of overall life satisfaction far beyond what was initially believed. In an article in Psychology Today, Dr. Jonathan S. Kaplan suggests plants and flowers reduce stress because of the distraction from life they provide and the improved air quality that plants provide. Another study shows that just the pleasant fragrance of flowers reduces stress.

FLOWERS HELP YOU START THE DAY ON A HIGH NOTE

People like to place flowers in a room where they will be seen straight away in the morning, such as in the kitchen, because flowers can jumpstart your positive mood – which can last all day long.

FLOWERS PROMOTE PRODUCTIVITY

With many people working from home to reduce the spread of COVID-19, it would be a good idea to have flowers & plants around their workspace as they stimulate innovation and creativity, which leads to increased productivity.

FLOWERS IMPROVE THE WELL-BEING OF SENIORS

Flowers can improve common age-related concerns by decreasing depression, inspiring contact with friends and family, and slowing memory loss among the elderly. Flowers make people happy and happier people live healthier, longer lives.
