The Hyacinth flower name comes from the Greek legend about a gorgeous young man called Hyakinthos who was slain because of jealousy by the god Zephyr the god of the west wind. The Zephyr god fought for the attention of the beautiful young man against Apollo the god of sun. Apollo distraught by the tragedy, finds a flower sprung in the spot where the young boy died names the flower Hyacinth In honor of the Hyakinthos. This symbolic meaning has remained the same throughout history. Additionally, the name Hyacinth is also derived from the word jacinth which means blue gemstone. There are also many different names in various cultures along with many different blooms that are solid in color. Some of these colors are purple, white, red and yellow.
